Chaos to Clarity: Creating an Intern Application and Process - For several years, American University’s Conference & Guest Services (UCGS) ran its intern housing like a hotel, offering stays for as short as one day and as long as 15 weeks with check-ins and outs available any day. This became a logistical nightmare for UCGS staff, the interns, and campus. This presentation follows the journey (and it was a journey) UCGS took to change business practices, increase safety, and work with StarRez to create an intern application that works for AU. It will also discuss lessons learned, ideas and options for moving forward, and ask for others to share their best practices.

An overview of how Northeastern University is integrating with other campus systems to facilitate intern operations. The integrations all for door access to be activated, dining dollar and meal plan upload, guest wifi accounts, printing service accounts and mailbox assignments to all be made through automation of systems. Additionally Northeastern is leveraging dashboards to manage the intern management workflows and data subscriptions to communicate with the intern guests.

Short Stays: Early and Commencement Hokie Housing

Virginia Tech has used the short stay process in PortalX to register students for early housing before the fall semester begins. Focused mainly on international students, but open to all, this process allows students to register and select a room style and actually select a room. This process, along with some direct billing to student accounts, has streamlined this process for several hundred students.
